Mission Statement
The Canton Community Theatre was organized for the benefit of members of the community to provide education, entertainment and exposure to cultural experiences. The objective for the organization is to become a resource for both the residents and businesses of the greater Canton area and to enrich the cultural depth and education of the community at large. The Canton Community Theatre strives to encourage community based cultural development and creative expression, as well as to provide entertainment for the community as a whole.
History
Canton Community Theatre started innocently enough in 2001 when several parents worked together on a 5'th Grade play, The Sound of Music, and wondered “Why is there no adult theatre in Canton? After all, almost all our surrounding towns have community theatre groups, why not Canton?” We suspected there was plenty of untapped talent in town, so we decided to test the waters with a small but beloved musical; You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. People came. They clapped. They even laughed. We were ecstatic!
But nothing prepared us for our first summer show, The Music Man. Over 125 people auditioned to be in the show… and the sold out audiences told us, we had started a good thing in Canton. Now 8 years and 33 shows and events later, we have grown, evolved, made lots of friends and touched many many lives. We put the Community first in our Community Theatre and are always looking for new and exciting projects that make Canton a great place to live.
We can’t be a community theatre without community involvement and look forward to your contribution. Please join us, be in a show, help out backstage or just come and be entertained. You can also participate by joining our meetings, volunteering for a committee or sending in your feedback. We would love to hear from you so together we can achieve more for Our Community.
We are the Canton Community Theatre.
